Tuna and hard bolied eggs are a great combo for a sandwich. I like to add celery for a bit of a crunch!

  1. In a medium bowl, stir together the tuna, eggs, celery and mayonnaise. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  2. Divide mixture onto 4 bread slices and top with other slice.

Im pregnant, and I crave tuna, this recipe is delicious, you have to put eggs in or it just isn't the same. I also added some sweet relish to this and gives it more flavor.-23 Dec 2005

Delicious!! I use two eggs and about 3/4 of a stalk of celery along with celery seed, salt, and pepper. Since finding this recipe we haven't eaten just tuna salad or just egg salad sandwiches. We even use this mix for stuffed tomatos. I sometimes add chopped sweet gerkins and just love the simplicity of this dish.-16 Jan 2007

If you’re looking for the best tuna salad sandwich on the internet, you’ve come to the right place. It’s perfectly creamy, bright and tangy, with just the right crunch from the vegetables. Bring water (1 inch deep) in shallow pan to boiling point. Reduce heat to simmer. Break each egg into a saucer quickly slip egg into water. Cook, covered, 3 to 5 minutes.

Lift eggs out of water with slotted spoon or pancake turner. Drain well. Refrigerate to cool completely.

Meanwhile, mash tuna with fork. Add chopped parsley, celery, chives, 2 tablespoons mayonnaise, pimiento, lemon juice, chili sauce, salt, and pepper mix until thoroughly combined.

Spread tuna mixture on toast. Place a poached egg in center of each slice. Place a green-pepper ring around each egg. Then top each egg with 1 teaspoon mayonnaise. Garnish with parsley sprig.

Easy Classic Tuna Egg Salad Recipe

This classic tuna egg salad recipe is great on your favorite toasted bread or alone as a salad. Using basic ingredients you probably already have at home you just might be surprised at how easy and delicious this one is.

One of my favorite things to make, especially on the weekend, is tuna & egg salad. It's really hearty and makes enough for 4-6 sandwiches. Perfect on the weekend when everyone is busy running around.

What Kind of Tuna for Tuna Egg Salad?

  • Solid white tuna packed in water - Albacore tuna in larger pieces or chunks
  • Chunk white tuna packed water - Albacore tuna in smaller, flakier
  • Light tuna packed in water - A mix of Yellowfin or Skipjack tuna, darker in color

I like to use solid white albacore tuna packed in water. I keep a couple of cans on hand in the pantry so this can easily be made at a moment's notice.

What's in Tuna Egg Salad?

Tuna, eggs, and mayonnaise are the basic ingredients. You can add in all kinds of vegetables or just leave it as is for a nice low carb lunch. Or use it as a spread on your favorite bread or sandwich roll.

Is Tuna Egg Salad Healthy?

Yes, in fact here are just some of the health benefits:

  • Low carb
  • High in protein
  • Contains omega 3 fatty acids
  • Provide selenium and vitamin B12

Most of the time I toast a nice multi-grain bread and make a tuna egg sandwich for lunch.

However, if I'm really feeling decadent, I'll make a tuna melt by splitting a bagel in a half and toasting it. Then you spread on the tuna egg salad, topped each bagel half with a piece of provolone cheese. Then stick them under the broiler until the cheese is all melted and gooey.

Different Ways to Eat Tuna Salad with Eggs

  • On a bed of lettuce
  • On toasted bread
  • As an open-faced tuna melts (perfect with bagels and cheese melted on top)
  • A scoop with crackers - I love Trader Joe's Crispbreads. Super crunchy and a good source of fiber.

Tuna egg salad add-in options:

  • Chopped up pickles - I prefer dill but sweet work just as well
  • Finely diced onions
  • Chopped celery - for added crunch
  • Diced herbs - dill, basil, tarragon, chives - whatever you prefer
  • Peppers - sweet, hot, flakes even a shot of hot sauce for you heat lovers.
  • Switch the mayo with yogurt or that sweeter brand if you like it.

Most of the time I leave it as is but I do enjoy a few crunchy dill snacking pickles on the side.

Southern Tuna Salad for Sandwiches

Southerners know how to make the best-tasting tuna salad sandwiches. The chopped hard-boiled egg and chopped dill pickle or dill relish are typical additions to a Southern-style tuna salad. Or, for a sweeter flavor, use chopped bread and butter pickles or sweet relish in the filling. To stretch the tuna further, add an extra hard-boiled egg.

This tuna salad recipe calls for canned or packaged white tuna, but feel free to use fresh poached albacore tuna (see below). White or albacore tuna is mild in flavor. If you prefer a stronger tuna flavor, you may choose to use light canned tuna, which might include skipjack, tongol, or yellowfin. You might even choose to use tuna packed in oil if you prefer that flavor.

Serve these sandwiches with potato chips or french fries for a satisfying lunch or sandwich supper. Or serve them with a cup of tomato soup. If you prefer a low-carb option, serve the tuna salad on lettuce leaves with sliced tomatoes or avocado wedges.

Directions: 1. In a large bowl mix together the mince, garlic, tomato ketchup, mustard, egg. ( more )

  • 1 medium red onion (about 8 ounces 225g), cut into 1/4-inch dice
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) red wine vinegar
  • 4 (5-ounce 140g) cans oil-packed tuna, drained
  • 1 cup (240ml) mayonnaise, plus more as needed
  • 2 stalks celery (about 6 ounces 170g total), cut into 1/4-inch dice
  • 1 ounce (about 10 stalks) flat-leaf parsley leaves and tender stems, minced (about 1/4 packed cup)
  • 1/2 teaspoon (3g) Asian fish sauce or very finely minced oil-packed anchovy fillets (about 2 small fillets)
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 8 slices sandwich bread, very lightly toasted
  • Romaine lettuce leaves, torn, for garnish

In a small bowl, combine onion and vinegar (vinegar should just cover onion add more if it does not) and let stand 15 minutes.

Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, combine tuna and mayonnaise and mix very well with a spoon until tuna is reduced to very small shreds.

Drain onion well, then add to tuna along with celery, parsley, and fish sauce or anchovy. Mix until well incorporated, then season with salt and pepper. Add more mayo, 1 tablespoon at a time, if desired.

Spoon tuna salad onto 4 bread slices, top with lettuce leaves, then close sandwiches. Serve right away.


Make the egg salad: In a medium bowl, combine the eggs with half of the mayonnaise, the paprika and a generous pinch salt. Stir to combine. Taste for seasoning. Set aside.

Make the tuna salad: in another medium bowl, combine the tuna with the remaining mayonnaise, a generous pinch salt, black pepper and the juice from the lemon. Stir to blend. Taste.

Assemble the sandwiches: Lay two slices of the bread on a flat surface and top each with half of the egg salad. Sprinkle with the scallions. Place another slice of bread on top of each and top with half of the tuna salad. Top each with half of the potato chips and the remaining slice of bread. Press down gently to have it all come together. Devour.
